A French Crack In The DRM Protection Racket?

What was that sound? It was the sound of shot fired over the bow of the S.S. DRM from the French Parliament. It looks like a law is being pushed through that would allow consumers to use software that would remove DRM allowing them to play digital media on the device of their choice.

"It will force some proprietary systems to be opened up ... You have to be able to download content and play it on any device," Vanneste told Reuters in a telephone interview on Monday.

The draft law is actually aimed at cutting down on piracy, although it is not clear to me how that would help that situation.

In any event on this issue, Vive La France!
