Here's some potentially good news from Dell. Apparently they have been listening to the legion of complaints from customers about all of the CRAPWARE that comes pre-installed on new computers. On select XPS systems they've added options so that you can configure a system without unnecessary apps clogging it up, and this is the default option according to this TechBlog report.
You'll still get an anti-virus program even on a clean install, which isn't a bad thing and it looks like you have an option for at least two different vendors there.
Curiously, it appears at the moment this is just for select XPS systems as opposed to Dell-wide. Progress, but limited. Now if others will just follow suit.
