Hot on the heels of the last week's announcment that Microsoft and The New York Times were pairing up to include a newspaper reader in Vista, comes word that Microsoft is pairing up with NewspaperDirect to bring the same sort of morning delivery to the UMPC. There's more info here at OrigamiPortal.
I gave up reading print editions of all the newspapers long ago, (with the exception of one local rag that doesn't do anything on-line.) So, it is interesting to see movement here at a time where the print news biz is obviously declining. It will be interesting to see how the advertising versus subscription model works in this space, but I still maintain that the publishers are going to need to deliver unique and quality content and not rehashed wire stories you can get anywhere else. Somehow I don't think charging for that quality content (the way the Times does now) is going to be a successful model.
