I linked earlier to info on John Tokash's blog that TabletKiosk was going to issue a recall for the eo UMPC in an attempt to fix the battery life issue. CTitanic has blogged a second email officially announcing the voluntary recall. Good for TabletKiosk for taking action to rectify the problem.
What's also interesting and hovering around the edges here, is an article linked to by both jkOnTheRun and GottaBeMobile. It seems a spokesman for UMPC chip maker VIA is saying that the first generation of UMPCs isn't quite there yet and was rushed to market (no news there.)
Colin Brix, chipset platform group international marketing specialist, said although such devices would find strong markets in the future, the current generation needed better battery life, and to be slightly smaller, slimmer and more powerful. 'Some of the first models we are seeing are not at their optimum,' he said.'The technology is there, but for early devices they are really rushed.
Certainly not a move out of the Win Friends strategy. I don't know this with any certainty, but it looks like finger pointing is starting to happen as different players in this whole mess begin circling the wagons.
