Google, YouTube, Viacom, and The Terror Word

Interesting reading if you flip to Techmeme today. The top two articles both use the word "terrorize" to describe different takes on Viacom's recent demands for GooTube to pull down 100,000 videos. Which GooTube did.

Mark Cuban is saying Google is terrorizing copyright owners by not using filters to help them scavenge for their copyright protected videos unless the broker a deal with Google.

Cory Doctorow is decrying how Viacom terrorized YouTube by spamming the videos in question.

If you look at the time stamp of the two posts, I think Cuban is in response to Doctorow, so this looks like a fun little food fight if nothing else.

Both parties make good points. Both parties miss the point. There's money to be made in them thar GooTubes, and everybody is going to do anything they can to get it, protect it, and take it away from anybody else. I mean, come on. This is American capitalism at its best. Just like the Wild Wild West.
