Sunday Morning Reading
Some Sunday morning reading to share.
Google has upset the Telco apple cart by saying it will bid a minimum of 4.6 billion smackers for the radio spectrum that will becoming available as long as its conditions for keeping it open are met. Lots of folks are talking about this and of course the Telcos are upset. One thing for sure, the dynamic is going to change and that can only be good. Here's some interesting reading on this.
- Michael Arrington says the FCC should listen to Google. I agree.
- CNet wonders if this will kill the cell phone industry. I think it will make it soar.
- The New York Times talks about the closed nature of the mobile world we now live in and why control is such a hot spot for the Telcos. It is a shame that we are so far behind the world curve on this issue due to greed and intransigence.
- Tim Karr thinks Google is forcing the FCC's hand.
Speaking of greed and intransigence. Gas prices are going up again because of failures in the refinery infrastructure. Yeah, some will scream build more refineries. So, do it. Spend the bribery bucks and get it done. But the real issue is that all of those huge profits lately haven't gone into maintenance. Wonder why that is?
Newspapers are jumping all over the blogging thing as they attempt to stop their downward spiral. The Washington Post was news on this front last week. The Chicago Trib is this week. Movement. But hidebound.
Dave Winer says Feedburner (now owned by Google) is in trouble. Is it?
The Middle East continues to be a hot bed of problems. Iran is now arresting squirrels for espionage. I kid you not.
And a cheese truck caught fire and turned a freeway into a large fondue.
