So Why Does The Do Not Call List Require Renewing?
If this isn't a classic example of how insane and corrupt our political and legislative process is in this country I don't know what else is. Remember the National Do Not Call Registry? Supposed to keep telemarketers away from you and disturbing you at home, and on your cell phones. Well, trouble is, every five years or so, you have to renew your desire to be on the list. Why is that? The nicey-nice political answer is that folks move and phone numbers change, etc... Sure there is some truth to that.
The real answer is lobbying money from marketers flowing into the back pockets of elected officials.
C'mon, let's get real here. Can you imagine anyone in any household saying, "You know what? I miss the good old days of having my phone ring with people trying to sell me stuff. I think I'll take my numbers off of the Do Not Call List." Not going to happen.
Some lawmakers are trying to give us a permanent option, which would be a good thing.
