Iranian Lawmakers Vote To Debate Death Penalty for Bloggers
So, what does the phrase “disturbing mental security in society” mean? That looks like it could be the language that might visit the death penalty on bloggers in Iran if they establish “weblogs and sites promoting corruption, prostitution and apostasy.” The Iranian Parliament has voted to debate the issue.
This is certainly not a good thing and should be condemned by any and all. Not merely because this is an attack at bloggers, or free speech, or freedom, and not merely because it is oppression masquerading as cultural relativism or sanctimony, but simply because some folks stand to lose their life for speaking (blogging) their minds about what they believe.
As I say often enough, if the beliefs and faith you hold so dear and so close lead you to attack those who believe differently, then you should question your beliefs or your faith before you go. If what you believe in can’t withstand criticism, then you’ve missed the point and deserve to be labeled as hollow.
You can tell it must be a holiday here in the US because this isn’t getting much play as far as I’ve seen so far.
