Some Sunday morning reading to share.
With McCain now realizing that issues won’t win it for him, his honorable hero status stained forever, and
Tina Fey Sarah Palin playing well but not bringing home the moose sausage, he is announcing he’s going negative. His loyal, but plotting in the background, VP nominee picks up the cue. Problem is, we’ve seen it all before and I think those that will affect the outcome this time won’t be buying it. This whole thing is getting almost Shakespearean.
While this is going on it is a shame to watch some pundits and politicos I admire, but don’t always agree with, try to find ways to justify Palin and McCain. Peggy Noonan is but one example of those who’ve succumbed. Sad. If Obama wins, watch how they come out swinging after the election and point fingers of blame.
Frank Rich says Palin mauled McCain with her debate performance and he doesn’t get it. He’s right. Why do you think they keep her on a leash.
Andrew Keen is doing is usual keening (ok, he’s not weeping) this time about elitism and Joe Sixpack. Look, the word (and concept of) “elite” is another casualty in America’s continuing efforts at balkanization. Sure we’ve got educated elites. But go hang out with some Joe Sixpacks for an evening. That will show you an elite attitude towards fellow human beings. All you need is a nose to look down.
Is the financial crisis a replay of 1929? Too damn early to tell. I’m guessing its worse.
The NY Times article tries to get to the root of the Fannie Mae meltdown. Good luck. But then again the answer is really simple. Greed.
Dave Winer says John McCain is channeling Nixon with his latest moves. John McCain can only wish he could channel Nixon. Like him or hate him, Nixon was a politician not someone who plays one on TV.
Great piece on why US Rep Tom Davis (R) VA hung up his political shoes. In fact it is damning.
Would Shakespeare have been a blogger? Great stuff.
