I just can't resist linking to this story in the USA Today. Apparently there are two companies with the name 100 Monkeys. Well, sorta kinda. One is based in California and goes by the name of A Hundred Monkeys. The other is in Wisconsin and goes by the name of 100 Monkeys. A Hundred Monkeys is suing 100 Monkeys for trademark infringement. As you can see the puns are just too easy.
One specializes in public relations and the other helps clients come up with company names. Now, in a bit of "gorilla warfare," they're wrangling over their own corporate names.
The company in Wisconsin specializes in helping a company find a name.
Apparently there is a 100 Monkey phenomenon from which the name(s) derives. Supposedly individual abilities and knowledge spread slowly within a group. But when things reache a critical mass, monkey number 100 in this case, the awareness supposedly spreads to all members of a group.
The definitive proof of this is lawyers filing trademark and patent infringement lawsuits in record numbers.
