I’m Giving This To Folks for Christmas

I’m not telling who, but some folks I know are going to see this under the Christmas tree this year.

The 9-inches tall Nose Shower Gel Dispenser, yep, you figured that out, shower gel from the right nostril.

Chris Brogan on The Importance of Being Funny

I tried to turn the title of this post into some further Oscar Wilde-like word play but failed. Chris Brogan has been blogging his experiences at this year’s Gnomedex, and one of his posts, The Importance of Being Funny, is worth a chuckle or two. He talks about how being funny impacts storytelling, and it does.

Funny works. The guy or gal who can give us a smile in life will win fans for an an eternity. It often amazes me how folks who can be so freely hilarious in social situations completely lose their funny bone when it comes to conducting their business. And as Chris says, not everyone is funny, nor is every topic.

But then as Oscar Wilde says:

Life is too important to be taken seriously.

3D on the iPhone?

Interesting, Interesting. Interesting. This clever little demo points up a possible future for 3D apps on the iPhone (and perhaps other devices.) It was so interesting that traffic crashed the guy’s site.

Sunday Morning Reading

borg76 Some Sunday morning reading to share.

Intersections: Twitter, Track, and CNN. Karoli nails so much of the recent overlapping debates about Twitter, track, politics, and media, that you’ll probably need to read this a couple of times.

Speaking of Twitter, Brian Carter on the Inquisitor looks at Why Twitter Is The Only Thing That Can Save The World from the Top 10 Causes of Destroyed Worlds. Very, very, funny.

Coming out of IDF this week, Intel began predicting that humans and machines will begin to merge in 2050. Hope I’m not around for that.

Martin Marty looks at Using God Politically. Good piece, too bad most who do, miss his points.

Michael Parekh wants more info from the presidential candidates on their tax and spend policies. So do I. Will we get it. Not without digging. There’s too much to gain (and lose) by staying away from substance.

Peggy Noonan says that folks are now starting to pay attention to the Presidential Follies, and thinks McCain should make a one term pledge. She’s right folks are staring to pay attention, and she’s wrong. McCain doesn’t need to make a one term pledge. Those paying attention have already figured out he would be a one-termer. That’s part of his appeal.

Biden is the Dem’s VP selection. CNet looks at his record on technology issues. Not a great record.

Waiting on line as a profession? Interesting.

Love This Multi-Tool Pen

Ok, yeah, I’m a geek, and I also really love gadgets like this 13-in-1 multi-tool pen. Someone add this to my Christmas list will you.

In addition to a pen it includes a hole puncher; a stainless steel file; a short cutting blade; a flat screwdriver; a wire sleeve remover/small nail remover; an ear pick; a long cutting blade; a tweezer; a Philips screwdriver; a stainless steel fork and a saw.

I like the idea of the ear pick.

That’s Some Rack of Medals

Is it me or does this Sports Illustrated cover of Michael Phelps look like he’s wearing a halter top?

Sunday Morning Reading

Some Sunday morning reading to share.

Jon_Stewart Is Jon Stewart the most trusted man in America?  The New York Times asks that question. What does that really say? Not sure. Maybe we've reached the point where we just don't take life too seriously anymore, or, we are just too aware of the big game not to laugh at the players.

Will Google’s Android end up on more than phones? I’m guessing yes.

Not sure Obama scored any points last night when answering the question about abortion and when a baby gets human rights by saying it was above his pay grade. Silly answer and too cute. He only offended his supporters and not his detractors with that kind of answer.

A North Texas school district will allow teachers to carry guns. I’m guessing small remote controlled electrocution devices attached to desks will be next.

Frank Rich says we don’t really know McCain. Bull. We know him too well. It is McCain who doesn’t know who he is and his own confusion helps to obscure the facts.

Russia has exposed the US as a paper tiger with its efforts in Georgia and it is sad and a bit terrifying to watch us posture like we can actually do something about it. We’ve had our balls cut off here but are pretending we’ve still got some swagger.

There might actually be some charges against some Blackwater guards. They’ll probably get a slap on the wrist. Why isn’t this a bigger issue?

Bigfoot was all over the news this week. Is it a hoax? Is it an industry in the making? Is it the real deal? No one knows. Sure is fun though.

The gapingvoid takes on the three C’s: Changers, Contributors, and Coasters.

ComputerWorld says that Dell and Intel are bypassing Microsoft to give users what they want. Didn't Asus start this?

Understanding Georgia and Russia with Peanut Butter

I think this is the clearest, but perhaps gooiest, explanation of the war between Russia and Georgia I’ve ever seen. Sometimes it just takes protein.

More Olympics Opening Ceremonies Trickery

fakesinger We’re finding out more and more about the dazzling Olympics Opening Ceremony each day it seems. Turns out the little 7 year old girl who wowed with her singing was wowing with someone else’s singing. Yep, it was lip synced and not to her own voice, but to the voice of another little girl.

Again, I’m not sure why anyone is so terrifically upset about this in this age of digital enhancements and performance prettying up.  We just continue to move away from live every chance we get.

The Inquisitor has the details.
