Cool Tool: Office 2003 Save My Settings Wizard

It is a good day when you learn something new. I wonder how many folks are like me and never knew there was a Save Your Settings Wizard for Office 2003 that lets you save settings and preferences for Office 2003 apps? I picked this Cool Tool tip up from Scott Hanselman who picked it up from Omar Shahine.

The wizard can be found in Start/Microsoft Office/Microsoft Office Tools and saves your settings to a file that can then be used to restore them. This can come in really handy during a reinstallation/ flattening/paving a machine.

Marc Orchant Blogs About Prep For His New Tablet PC

I always enjoy reading about users ordering, waiting, receiving, and setting up their new Tablet PCs. Marc Orchant is waiting on the delivery of his new Gateway. In repsonse to one of his readers, he blogs about his backup and password strategies and how that will play into setting up his new system. I always learn something new when I read these kind of posts, especially from Marc, and I look forward to reading the rest of his blogging about his new arrival.

The Reinstallation Diaries Final Installment

It has been almost one month since I began the process of reinstalling or rebuilding my Toshiba M200 from the recovery disk. I've been operating in good shape since the process was completed and now I'm ready to take the final step in the process.

Marc Orchant's Reinstall On The Tablet PC Show Podcast

Taking the afternoon off here after the opening of The Underpants last night and I cued up The Tablet PC Show #16 podcast to relax and listen. Mondays are usally the only day off I get each week and one of my relaxation hobbies is to listen to James and Marc on the podcast. (I have no idea what that says about my relaxation habits or the podcast, so draw your own conclusions, but I enjoy spending a little bit of time with James and Marc during downtime.)

I was particularly interested in this episode since Marc was going to talk about his recent rebuild of his M200 (and they plugged The Reinstallation Diaries as well.)

In addition to whatever help The Reinstallation Diaries might offer someone going through that process, I'd highly recommend you grab the podcast and hang onto it. Marc makes some great observations and offers some good hints. (Wish I'd have known about Outsource XP, but I do now.)

The Reinstallation Diaries Episode VI: Final Thoughts and Summary

The Reinstallation Diaries Episode VI: Final Thoughts and Summary

It was one week ago today that I performed the reinstall on my Toshiba M200 Tablet PC. The majority of my experiences are chronicled in the five preceding episodes. This is a summary of lessons learned, interesting info picked up along the way, and a few comments about the entire process.

The Reinstallation Diaries Episode V: The Security Solution

The Reinstallation Diaries Episode V: The Security Solution

If you’ve followed any of this journey you will recall I deviated from my standard operating procedure on this rebuild and did not immediately install my usual security apps once I had the OS up and running.

The Reinstallation Diaries Episode IV: The Search Engine Query

The Reinstallation Diaries Episode IV: The Search Engine Query

Before I get to a discussion about which search engine I use, let me go back to the application installation for a moment. In the previous post I listed the key apps, divided into two priority levels. Those in the first priority tier I need and use every day.

The Reinstallation Diaries Episode II: XPS2

The Reinstallation Diaries Episode II: Up And Running: On To SP2

After checking out several methods of reinstallation and recovery and getting a good reinstallation, it was time to check out the basics.

I was an early M200 adopter getting one the first month they were on the market. To tell you the truth, I had already forgotten a lot about that original install and the original Tablet OS. So, once I had things up and running I thought I would give everything a once over. Everything was in place and working fine. You don’t really appreciate the differences SP2 makes in the Tablet OS until you go back to the original.
