Cool Tool: Journal Note Writer On Your Desktop

This is very cool. Many Tablet PC folk have for ages looked for a solution allowing them to use Journal's Note Writer on their desktop computer. Tablet PC Buzz forum member, Graye, has come up with a solution that works like a charm. Here's a link to the thread on The Buzz that contains the instructions. You'll need Microsoft Office 2003 to make this work. And a Tablet PC of course.

Lots of entertainment this week if you've followed the running gun fight between Andrew Orlowski and Robert Scoble over IE 7 Beta 1 and the alleged tool bar lock outs. Looks like it will provide entertainmnet for some time to come as well.

In any regard all of it reminded me of another thing my grandfather always said that I know goes completely against today's PR fight back strategies. So here's this week's Quote Note of the Week courtesy of Grandpa:

Taking A Stand With Tablet PCs

I've seen several blog posts about this recently and there always seems to be a thread or threads running on Tablet PC Buzz regarding the same issue.

The issue? Stands for using a Tablet PC on a desktop.

Hilton Locke: Vista Beta 1 and Tablet PC Drivers: Cross Your Fingers

Hilton Locke is doing a great job about keeping Tablet PC users informed regarding some Tablet PC issues with Vista Beta 1. In this recent post he warns those anxious to try out Beta 1 about driver compatibility and offers some suggestions that may or may not work. Here's an excerpt:

The most common driver types that I've encountered that need babying are:

• Wired/Wireless LAN
• video graphics
• buttons (Tablet bezel-located buttons)
• base (motherboard) chipset, particularly regarding ACPI
• sound/multimedia
• OEM utilities (e.g. auto-rotation utilities, battery monitors)

So if you really have to have Vista Beta 1 on your Tablet, be aware of these issues, put your XP drivers on a USB flash drive, and cross your fingers!

Tablet PC Schizophrenia At TechWeb

This is really making the rounds today. Yesterday I spotted and posted about TechWeb's story proclaiming that the future of the Tablet PC platform was a bit murky. Apparently I missed an earlier same day story from the same publication claiming that Tablet PCs are headed for broader use.

James Kendrick picked up on the schizophrenic forecasts yesterday. Engadget picked up on it today. Tablet PC Buzz also picked up on it, and so it goes. What's humorous/curious about the whole thing is that both articles use the same InStat study for the thesis of their respective reports and also quote the same analyst.

Playing Around With Start.Com

Did some exploring of Start.Com today over lunch. Looks very neat. With all the Buzz about RSS implementation with Google, Yahoo, (you know the list), I'm kind of enamoured with ease of how Start.Com works. Check it out here. Very easy to navigate with a pen.
