Colin Walker Takes The Vista Tablet PC TIP For A Spin

Colin Walker continues his excellent reporting on Vista and the Tablet PC. In his latest article he takes a good look at the TIP and the personalization feature. As usual he has some excellent screen shots. Some interesting new info:

• Under the TIP Options menu there is a selection for reporting handwriting errors.
• Trained recognizers will be transportable from Tablet PC to Tablet PC.
• You can report recognition errors to Microsoft to help improve recognition in future editions.

The Raven X41 Linux Based Tablet PC

Engadget is reporting about the Raven X41 Linux based Tablet PC. EmperorLinux's Raven apparently supports all of the Tablet PC features and is based on the Lenovo X41 Thinkpad Tablet PC. The price point seems steep ($2350-$2950) for a Linux based anything. Guess they figure Tablet PCs are worth the premium.

Some Specs:

• 12. XGA
• 1200-2000 MHz Pentium-M
• 256-512 ram expandable to 2 Gig
• 40-80GB HD
• 802.11 b/g WiFi
• Linux Pre-Configured (dual boot available)
• 2.7lbs to 4lbs.

Some Late Friday Afternoon Reading And Fun

Long week. Sitting in my office with no one else around for awhile, catching up on some reading. Fun stuff to share.

#1. If you can't parallel park, Nissan has the future car for you. The Pivo is an egg shaped car whose body rotates 360 degrees to make the front the back and the back the front. Steering, wheels, and other mechanics are handled wirelessly. That's some intelligent design.

#2. Intelligent Design fans watch out. Scientists have discovered gorillas using tools for the first time. Next thing you know they will be driving Pivos.

#3. And for those who think we should leave the planet to the gorillas driving Pivos, there's this from Oblogotory Ancedotes pointing to The Voluntary Human Extinction Movement (VHEMT.) Their mottos are May We Live Long and Die Out and Thank You For Not Breeding.

#4. And, finally, to prove that there is some truth to both the theories of Evolution and Intelligent Design, there's this picture:

I knew the White Sox had help winning the Division Title. Remember, Chewbacca could fly some pretty impressive tools.

James Kendrick Is Blogging The MVP Summit

Tablet PC MVP James Kendrick is blogging the MVP Summit and sounds like he's having a good time. I expect we won't hear many details from the MVPs there simply because a lot of stuff will be under NDA. I asked jk in an email this morning how many Tablet PC's he was seeing at the summit and his reply was that he had seen more Tablets in one room than ever before and the users where not just Tablet PC MVPs.

Perhaps the infection is spreading.

John Roberts And Accuracy

Doesn't anyone in the media check facts anymore? Too many sources in all media are incorrectly stating that John Roberts is the second youngest Chief Justice. Here's the NY TImes. Wrong. He's number 3. John Marshall and John Jay both were younger when sworn in.

Update: Apparently the NY Times article I linked to changed a bit since I read it earlier this morning. Thanks to whomever the anonymous reader is who posted a comment alerting me to this.

World Toilet Summit?

Ok, who knew there was a World Toilet Summit? Apparently a lot was achieved at the summit in Belfast, Ireland. New protocols were approved for global standards and attendees got to see Belfast's UriLift, which is a stainless steel urinal that rises hydraulically out of the ground at night to accomodate male revelers. There was no discussion of stall surfing.

Go White Sox!

Yea! A Chicago baseball team made the playoffs. Congrats to the Chicago White Sox for not choking when it sure looked like they would. As a 20 year former resident of the Windy City, I have to celebrate when any Chicago sports team reaches a playoff. The point is to celebrate when you make the playoffs because you know being a Chicago baseball team the chances of going all the way are slim and none.

Rough day today and to get away from some difficulties at work tonight I decided to go ahead and install some recent updates on both my Tablet PC and my desktop including Office 2003 SP2, OneNote SP2, the updated Wacom Enhanced Graphics Drivers For Tablet PC version 4.92-4, and iTunes 5.01.
