Lots going on in the world today on a lot of fronts. This post deals with some of my thoughts on some of the big news in the Computer industry.
AOL seems to have risen from the dead with the acquisition of Jason Calcanis' Weblogs, Inc and there is just now late word that Dave Winer's Weblogs.com has been sold to Verisign.
Lots of money flowing. Lots of things moving. I wonder if anyone has any idea as to where, though. There's been so much talk lately about Web 2.0 and the battle between web based apps and client based apps, Google vs. Microsoft, etc.... and it seems like in the race to conquer the universe everyone is trying to grab a spot on the starting line.
News last week that Internet Ad revenue was up is probably one of the keys here. News that blogs are having more influence is another. Heck, when the traditional media starts attacking something (blogs) you know they must be having an impact. Is it a blog bubble? Are blog networks going mainstream? Query: If they go mainstream, then what replaces them? Nature (and venture capital) abhors a vacuum.
Where is it all headed? Like I said earlier, no one really knows, even those on the inside. Things are moving too fast to pin it down. Even this early in the game there are warnings, and questions as well as predictions.
At the moment the pot is being stirred very quickly so it really is too early to judge the outcome based on just a taste. Very much like the political scene this week that I talk about in Bubble, Bubble, Toil and Trouble #2.
