Hmmm? Loren links to some news and some interesting specs about the $100 PC that has been ballyhooed for some time now. The news raises a curious eyebrow. At a MIT press conference yesterday Nicholas Negroponte and Tablet pioneer Alan Key presented a glimpse at the $100 laptop that will be targeted at children.
While the specs promote a conversion into a Tablet reader-friendly mode, Loren cautions that there is no hard news on whether a digitizer will be included, he also links to another article that suggests it might be.
Loren also cautions that the $100 computer is still far from a done deal, but it sure is an interesting and intriguing idea. An excerpt from his blog entry:
The original intent was to target the laptop to children in emerging countries, however, Gov. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts is suggesting that the state purchase 500,000 units for all middle school and high-school students. Other states are supposedly interested too. This could have a huge impact on Tablet adoption in schools--effectively creating a standard based on the Linux OS's tools in terms of content, ink, and the P2P protocols defined by the $100 laptop. I can see the laptop potentially influencing online content too.
