Ok, we all know the RIAA and the recording labels it represents have never met a grandmother they wouldn't like to mug for a nickel. And now they've decided to back track on some assurances they offered Congress, the Courts, and Consumers when the Home Recording Act was passed. Those assurances offered that they wouldn't use all the tools that the law provided them. Can you say sucker.
Shame on anyone who believed the assurances that weren't codified into law, becuase the RIAA Scrooges have done just what you knew they would in filing a suit against XM Satellite Radio to prevent users from recording songs using the new Inno device, that was designed to do just that. They also want $150,000 for each song that has been downloaded onto the devices.
Look, folks invovled in these negotiations were fools to settle for assurances. The RIAA and the record labels are notorious misers who love to screw anyone they can. (Have you ever read a recording contract?) They make loan sharks, pimps, and pushers look good. Don't you wish that someone would police the RIAA and the labels for all of the payola and other questionable practices that still go on?
