We'll we've finished two weeks of rehearsal with a run-thru of the entire show at our rehearsal space in the Middletown Town Hall. Actors had the day off on Monday, but our production team was busy loading in the set, hanging lights, sewing costumes, and preparing for tonight's first rehearsal onstage. This is always an exciting and stressful rehearsal as we find out what works and what doesn't.
After taking a look at the set yesterday, I can't wait. It looks wonderful and the scale is magnificent given the epic sweep of the story.
We discovered a lot of things in the run thru. The show is still too long for contemporary audiences (Sigh.) So, I spent time yesterday making some more cuts. The action and the story will sail along, once we get some confidence under our belts. The integration of live drumming will work and really adds an interesting power to the show. When we take the stage at 6pm tonight, we'll first make any adjustments in the stage combat, then work a few other moments. After that we'll start with the top of the show and move forward. It should be a late night.
