So jurors who voted to convict him are saying Scooter Libby was caught up in something bigger and one says she doesn’t think he deserves jail time and hopes he is pardoned. What a sorry mess. As both sides of the political spectrum jump up and down claiming victory while they spin like tops, I hope all the players realize that all of these kind of shenanigans tarnish even further the old “nation of laws” mantra. Notice that you’re not hearing that much in this aftermath. I’m waiting for the pardon, which I know will come, and the uproar that will be hard upon it. I can’t imagine how anyone who pays any attention can have in faith in the justice system after the last decade or so. Don’t think I’m defending any one person or position here. I’m not. I just wish we’d start calling a spade a spade and stop the game of charades. It sure would be cheaper. But then honesty and justice don’t really see each other eye to eye, now do they.
From Mark Twain: To succeed in other trades, capacity must be shown; in the law, concealment of it will do.
From Lenny Bruce: In the halls of justice, the only justice is in the halls.
