FCC Grants Limited Open Access on 700MHz Auction Rules

The FCC has voted and the word has come down. There will be limited open access on 1/3rd of the 700MHz spectrum but there will be no provision for wholesale purchase or resale. Some good news and some not so good in what I'm reading so far. I'm sure we'll hear more soon.

Blogging, Micro-Blogging, and More (or less)

Steve Rubel blogs some interesting thoughts that are on quite a few minds these days with the advent of Twitter, Pownce, Facebook, and other social trends. Is micro-blogging on these platforms the wave of the future? Who really knows. As I keep saying, it is way too early to tell.

Using a sports analogy Steve says he now has a short game and a long game when it comes to writing and sharing his thoughts and I find that occasionally I feel the same way. Although truth be told, the micro-blogging platforms are still the first thing that I don't pay attention to when I'm crunched with work. But that's not entirely true. Through Twitterfeed, I'm able to send feeds to Twitter whether I blog here or on GBM. I'm also able to send Pownce feeds through to Twitter as well, so there is some sort of quasi-long/short game thing going on there.

The real test of this in my case will be after the first of the year when I do my traveling. We'll see how that plays out. In the mean-time, I'll keep both parts of my game in practice as best I can.

Summer Camp Sex in Russia

Apparently with all the goings on in the wacky and dangerous world these days, this little summer camp in Russia sounds both wacky and dangerous. Apparently trying to breed a new nationalism, the camp encourages young folks to have sex and procreate for the Rodina. They even have special tents set up for the exercise.

Unreal.

Turkey, Iraq, and WTF?

As if we don't have enough to worry about in the Middle East and Asia, Robert Novak says we've taken on a new mission. Apparently we're working with Turkey to keep the Kurds at bay in order to keep Turkey from invading Iraq.

And if you're like me, you're saying, but wait a minute here, I though the Kurds were our allies. I'm guessing they thought the same thing.

Michael Parekh on The Social Network Thing

So who's your friend? Reams are being written about the social network explosion. A lot of those reams about FaceBook. Michael Parekh weighs in with some intriguing thoughts that I think have a lot of credence.

I still think the whole phenomenon is still too new for anyone to really understand the impact, the fatigue, the highs, and the lows. But it is definitely an interesting ride.

The FCC and Call Letters: Too Funny

Ok, I'm not going to print the call letters for the radio station that the FCC approved. Instead I'll just send you to this post from Ken Levine. Too funny. Especially from the folks who want to protect us from all those bad words and images out there. Be warned. As Ken says his post contains offensive letters of the alphabet.

Ingmar Bergman Dies

Sad to see this today. Filmmaker Ingmar Bergman passed away today. I loved his films and his artistry. The Seventh Seal, Cries and Whispers, Wild Strawberries, and Autumn Sonata are some of my favorites of his. But Fanny and Alexander is the best "backstage" movie ever made and as a theatre lover and practitioner, it will forever remain near and dear to my heart.

Fellow Tablet PC MVP and good friend, Marc Orchant is celebrating the Big 50 today. Have a great one buddy.

And another Tableteer, Ed Holloway is also celebrating a birthday today as well. Many more to the both of you!

Dell and Tablet PC Frustration

Some Sunday morning reading to share

Lots of talk about social networks, focusing on Facebook primarily, The topic vomited out by Jason Calacanis, is a simple one. How do you keep up with all these friend requests on these things? It ain't easy, and I certainly don't pretend to be dealing with the kind of numbers that Calacanis and Scoble are dealing with. When I first blogged about Facebook, I said it runs a risk of imploding in on itself. I still think that is true. Rex Hammock has also weighed in on this and says the problem is larger than the geek play currently going on.

According to The NY Times, Google is looking at adding a digital fingerprint of some sort to YouTube videos so that it will be easier to eliminate pirated content.

Fox News and Bill O'Reilly are fighting with the liberal blog scene big time. Looks like the liberal bloggers are trying to fight back where it hurts. They are looking to establish a network of folks who will call local advertisers and tell them they don't like O'Reilly. Don't know if it will work or not.

Jim Forbes on Critical Thinking about Future Classrooms and Technology. Good stuff.

An ATM spits out $20 bills instead of $5 bills. Folks take advantage. They are getting tracked down. Don't they know that there are cameras on these things?
