Wow. The saga of the Sprint/HTC ROM Update for the Mogul (PPC 6800) just went ugly in a big way. Version 2.16 caused as many issues as it fixed for some users, and now HTC has pulled it and is recommending a roll back to the previous version. (Which for some users was very buggy.) There were rumors a new update would be out soon. Well, as we all know in the tech industry, soon is a relative term. HTC has now posted this on their site:
NOTE: The ROM update version 2.16.651 posted on 10/24/2007 which had Bluetooth fixes has been removed. Update 2.16 caused some unanticipated conflicts in device performance. The Bluetooth fixes will be added to a future ROM update expected in early 2008. If you already updated your device to version 2.16, you can restore your device to the prior version by installing the file posted below. Please bookmark this webpage for future software updates.
I'm debating what do to next with my Mogul as the issues don't seem to be crippling here with the new update. Other users are reporting no problems whatsoever. Sprint and HTC are reporting headaches.
What a shame that this will forever tarnish what was a great smartphone.
