Doc Searls posts an email from his sister that aligns with something I’ve been feeling since the later days of the primaries before McCain took the roses. Essentially, the Republicans don’t want McCain to win for any number of reasons. If you look at the bizarre chain of events over the last few weeks, and especially today, it certainly feels like their isn’t a concerted effort. Doc’s sister came to her conclusion after seeing some of the visuals following last Thursday’s White House meeting.
She also lists a number of reasons that would make any candidate think twice about the job they are running for. Face it, the next four years aren’t going to be easy for anyone to fight through without being wounded terribly. There are so many landmines both domestically and internationally that it will be a tough hall.
I’m sort of quasi betraying a confidence here when I say that I had a discussion with a reasonably well placed Republican operative right after the Sarah Pain convention. And I’m sure there will be hell to pay for blogging this. When I asked him why that choice, his answer was that McCain played into their hands because no one wanted to waste Romney or Pawlenty in a losing cause. So, if the Republicans are playing for 2012, they are sure doing their damnedest to muck things up. It is frightening to think that they could go to such lengths.
