Everybody is excited that the RIAA is pulling back after realizing that suing everyone in sight over allegedly stealing music was a zero sum game.
I wouldn’t be too excited yet. This strikes me pure and simple as a game of economics. Lots of money was spent. No return. Fire the lawyers and stop the cash burn.
Don’t think the RIAA is shifting anything more than decimal points on the bottom line here. As the Wall St Journal points out they are aiming their sights on ISPs to try and get them to help keep all of their customers and potential customers branded as thieves and scoundrels.
These guys won’t stop until they get a mandatory tax on every birth of a child based on the assumption that the kid is going to either sing a song, play a song, or steal a song at some point in its life.
