Linking Fun, My Wife, The New York Times, and Monkeys

Too, too, funny and who’d a thunk it? The NY Times occasionally links to Life on the Wicked Stage: Act 2, mostly when I’m writing about political stuff, and sometimes about cultural issues. That’s always appreciated.

Today on my lunch hour I was looking at my blog’s referrer logs and noticed that the quick little video I posted of my wife last night was getting hits from the NY Times.

Given that the video was just something silly (very silly, actually), dealing with a prop for our educational production of Comedy of Errors, I was even more surprised that it was linked to from the Your Money section of the Times.  I’m sure it will fade off that blog roll pretty quick, but below is a screen grab of it appearing under the subhead Your Money Headlines From Around the Web.

Maybe the editors have as wacky a sense of humor as my wife and I do, or maybe the post title Can We Keep It? had some deep dark economic meaning beyond last week’s AIG bonus payment kerfuffle. Who knows?

I guess we’ll keep it.

Sunday Morning Reading

Some Sunday morning reading to share.

A Internet Spy Network is stealing government secrets in 103 countries and China is the suspect. Anyone surprised by this? Via the New York Times.

The new Microsoft commercials that smack at Apple’s higher prices are getting the Apple fan’s dander up. Some responses are quite passionate. Maybe, I don’t remember this accurately, but it seems like the reaction is much larger than when the I’m a Mac/PC commercials first debuted.

Twitter fun: Marc Cuban criticizes refs via Twitter and a supposed Palm Pre beta tester tweets the release date.

Last night we had Earth Hour and folks around the globe turned things off. (I didn’t because I couldn’t rehearse in the dark, but, hey.) Rush Limbaugh and his cohorts decided to turn lights on to counter the effort. Amazing. While I’m not saying the Earth Hour move was necessarily anything larger than a big symbol, some of the actions of those seeking an opposite action give the term “childish” a bad rep. Check out this list.

Live productions are now slowly going digital. We’re having requests for this at Wayside Theatre, but the costs are prohibitive at the moment. Michael Parekh has a good post on this .

Humongous Helicopter Hotel

Wow. This thing looks, well, big. Apparently it is recycled Soviet Mil V-12 helicopter that is being turned into a first class flying hotel. Not only do you get to fly from place to place but there amenities like a spa, yoga classes, entertainment options, and a tea garden.

A tea garden in a helicopter? Well, who would have thunk there would be a flying helicopter hotel in the first place.

Oops. Apple Uses Jailbroken App in Patent Application

Somewhere in some office somebody’s head is going to roll for this one. According to Engadget, Apple goofed in one of its patent applications by including an illustration that showed a screen full of apps that showed a jail-broken app or two. Too funny.

Drobo Dreaming

I’ve been thinking about taking the plunge to pick up a Drobo for my digital storage needs for some time now but haven’t had the cash or the time to pull the trigger. Scott Bourne has been giving a few Drobos of late from his site mydl.me (Managing Your Digital Life) and this post throws my hat shamelessly into the ring to participate.

Everything I’ve heard and read about the Drobo sounds like this could be an excellent solution. Who knows, maybe I’ll get lucky.

Penguins Taking the Plunge

OK, it is Friday and it has been a long week, and admittedly I’ve thought a couple of times about taking a long leap. I’ve got a full weekend of rehearsals for Comedy of Errors ahead and my brain needs to let go a bit. So, here’s the first of two wacky animal posts that I enjoyed and hopefully you will as well.

Note: There is no truth to the rumor that I’m making the cast of Comedy of Errors or Cotton Patch Gospel do this.
