The folks minding the Apple App Store for the iPhone and the iPod Touch must be fruitcakes. They haven’t gone as far as the headline of this post suggests, but they might as well have. Today comes word that they have banned the update to the Twitter app, Tweetie. The reason? Users might type an obscenity into it. Well, let’s see there are a quite a few Twitter and IM apps where this could occur. I think I’ve typed an obscenity into an email or two in my days with the iPhone. And I’m sure folks out here have typed a few four-letter-words into a search box in Safari. Actually the concern is that an obscenity might show up in Trends as a search result. But then hey, that could happen in just about any search case.
I the culture minders at Apple, you know the ones that think the money rolling in from various Fart apps, are just afraid that someone might glance over your shoulder and see an obscenity or two.
