Great article from Clay Shirky on what’s going on (and what’s been going on) with print media. He outlines some of the problems, some of the history, and hits the nail on the head several times. There are many issues certainly, but at the core, there’s really one.
The statement below sums it up nicely:
Society doesn’t need newspapers. What we need is journalism.
If you’re paying attention to what’s going on, you should read the entire article. These are fascinating, and as Shirky says, revolutionary times. Intriguing that in the most recent past, the methods (media) by which we discovered that the world was changing around us can’t tell us that story from the battlements they find themselves fighting behind.
