As the world watches events in Iran continue to roil. Crackdowns are predicted on those doing the protesting. The Ayatollah has agreed to an investigation to what appears to be a dicey election, but keep in mind, that may or may not wash.
Who knows what will happen or what has happened, but to my view, we are witnessing history unfold in the sloppy way history usually does. Would I love to see things change in Iran? Yes. Do I think it will happen? I have no clue.
What I do know is that one way or the other, assuming the worst that a crackdown occurs, Iran will never be the same. Some say this may be Iran’s Tiananmen Square moment, and if it is, let’s hope the result is not the same. But I’m guessing that, again assuming the worst, the folks in Iran won’t let this settle down for too long.
I’m guessing the religious ruling class is having flashbacks to what they accomplished 20 years ago and is scared out of their minds as to what is happening.
I’m impressed that Twitter and its hosting partner have decided to delay a maintenance shut down realizing the importance that Twitter is playing as a communication tool.
I’m amazed and amused at our local yokel politicians trying to assign credit and or blame for what is going on to our current president or the former one. Somehow, I don’t think anyone on the streets in Iran is thinking about that right now.
Regardless of how things turn or don’t, we can only hope that supposed leaders in any country will realize that standing up and denying reality won’t play in the real world anymore. Watching Ahmadenijad try and claim things were OK should be enough to make him hid his head forever, now that he’s one upped Baghdad Bob.
